The University of Colorado’s Board of Regents announced the firing of Ward Churchill, the professor now infamous for his 2002 essay justifying the terrorists’ actions and comparing September 11th victims to Nazi totalitarians.
However, the school made sure to announce last Tuesday that the motives for firing Churchill were not connected to the incendiary article, which went barely noticed for three years. Instead the university claims Churchill’s firing is based on his “deliberate and repeated research misconduct;” Churchill has additionally been found to have plagiarized and falsified several parts of his academic publications.
The school also reiterated that this move was in no way a punishment for the professors’ personal opinions or political beliefs, but rather was based solely in his professional misconduct and knowingly false components of his work.
